Mel Bush Team Heads To ADRL Ford Drive One Event Short Handed
ELMA, NY - This past off-season Mel Bush hired two experienced crewmembers in Eric and Jake Fahy. The two have proved extremely beneficial to Mel Bush Motorsports so much so that they will be sorely missed at this coming weekend's ADRL Ford Drive One Summer Drags V in Martin Michigan.
When the two were hired they were upfront with Mel and let him know that since they also work for Bob Bode's AR-BEE Transparent Products nitro funny car team they may have some conflicting dates. With Bode running a limited 09' schedule the only conflicting date lands on this weekend.
"It's tough. We're committed to both teams," said Eric Fahy. "The nitro team has been our gig for over five years now and we need to be there. We hate to leave Mel and Tommy (D'Aprile) short handed but I know that Mike Janis and his guys will do what ever it takes to pick up for us."
Jake Fahy echoed his cousin's sentiments. "This is our first season with Mel, Tommy and Mike (Janis) and they've been nothing but fantastic to work with. They've made it so easy for us. We honestly look forward to every race with excitement because the entire ADRL deal is just plain fun. We hate not being there, but we're confident in Kevin, Mike Jr. and Mike. We'll be back for the Independence Drags and the rest of the season, said Jake Fahy.
With the Fahy boys out for the race the team will be left with Crew Chief Kevin Peters and just one full time crew member, Mike Bush. Bush, the grandson of team owner Mel Bush, has been easing into his crew duties over the past two seasons but he'll take the lead position this weekend.
"I know Mike (Janis) and his guys will be there so I'm not worried at all about being undermanned; those guys have it together. I know there'll be more asked of me and that's fine. Both Tommy and I will be adding to our usual duties but I'm sure we'll be OK," said Bush.

Good Luck This Season Tommy I actually met u on a plane in Nov 08 coming back from your win..I have always been a huge NHRA & IHRA fan I live in Punta Gorda
Tommy and I went to junior high school together in Port Charlotte. We are both from Long Island. I can remember him getting his feet in the door of drag racing back then. I currently reside in St. Petersburg and I started racing about three years ago. I began with a street car and now I'm building a 7.50 cert. chassis. I run brackets out at sunshine. I hope I get the opportunity to catch up with Tommy some time soon at an event. Please let me know if the bel air will be in Bradenton where I can check it out. Thanks!
