D'Aprile experiences the highs and lows of Drag Racing in one weekend
Tommy D'Aprile came into the ADRL Hardees Georgia Drags VI, to drive for Mel Eaves instead of car owner Mel Bush who decide to park his car for one race while he searched for the right tuner for his team. D'Aprile made 2 appearances at Hardees on Thursday with the Mel Eaves 68 nitro injected Camaro. "Being given the opportunity to make this appearance and meet some fans and let them sit in the car was really special." said D'Aprile. All the fans that came out, were really interested in the car and the nitro injection and how fast it would run."
D'Aprile sat out the first qualifying session while some small modifications were made for him to be comfortable inside the car. During the third qualifier Tommy got a little more excitement than he bargained for when the car lost a oil line took a hard left and impacted the wall head on before bursting into flames when the nitro ignited, then once again hitting the wall on the right side and coming to rest in the middle of the track." Thankfully D'Aprile was uninjured in the accident, and found himself grateful to Graham Jones of the Spiro Pappas team for jumping the fence and helping him out of the car just seconds before the safety squad reached him.
"I really wasn't worried about the crash because I believe that its all gonna be ok I try to be optimistic and have faith in the world I am part of, I knew the safety equipment would do its job and the safety squad would check me out. I am ready to get back to the track." said D'Aprile. Getting back to the track will hopefully include a test session before the ADRL US Drags III in Richmond Virginia on May 21 and 22. "Its important for us to test, as we are teaming up with Quain Stott for the rest of the season as he takes over tuning duties for Mel Bush Motorsports." I have the utmost confidence in Quain Stott having teamed with him before, so his addition to this team has me as a driver more excited than ever."
Mel Bush Motorsports would like to thank Bush and Sons Construction, and NGK Spark Plugs,
